Patricipant Safety

In addition to the general hygiene requirements outlined above, the following expectations and protocols will be in place:

  • Screenings

    • Registration process
    • Waiver: The waiver signed on the day of the session will outline information and expectations upon arrival. The waiver will note and confirm the following:
      • Zero tolerance policy: Participants exhibiting or experiencing any symptoms will not be permitted to participate
      • Travel/contact check
    • Upon arrival, participant temperature check will be taken and recorded. This will confirm that the participant is safe to participate in the session
  • Group Size

    • As much as possible, activities, exercises and drills will be led with social distancing measures in place and with no contact
    • Where groups are required, they should be kept to as small as possible with individuals staying within the same group throughout the session. Activity leads will follow viaSport sport-specific guidelines where applicable
    • Total group size for each activity will adhere to the BC Phase 3 Restart Plan (less than or equal to 50 people) or facility-specific capacity
  • Organizing Committee Presence

    • A member of the organizing committee will be in attendance at every in-person session to help League Reps and Activity Leads facilitate. They will ensure protocol and processes outlined in this document are followed
  • League Rep and Activity Lead Safety

    • Online virtual training will ensure that league reps and activity leads are aware of protocols and equipped to plan and execute sessions in accordance with them
    • League Reps and Activity Leads will be provided with masks and gloves to use for the duration of the activity 
    • Activity leads will be provided with a megaphone or portable microphone to reduce the need to project their voices or stand close to the participants
  • First Aid Plan

    • In case first aid is needed to be administered and social distancing cannot be observed, League Reps will be provided with masks, gloves and face shields
    • League reps will provide the same level of assistance as previous seasons (ie. bandages and ice) 
  • Lost and Found

    • League Reps will end off sessions with announcements and reminding participants to collect any belongings they brought to the venue. In the case that items are left behind, the Organizing Committee member in attendance will have plastic garbage bags available to collect items separately and place them in individual sealed bags 
  • Outbreak Plan

    • Identify the roles and responsibilities of staff or volunteers if a case or outbreak is reported. Determine who within the PentaSport organization has the authority to modify, restrict, postpone or cancel activities
    • Advise affected individuals to: 
      • Self-isolate
      • Monitor their symptoms daily, report respiratory illness and not return to activity for at least 10 days following the onset of fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, and painful swallowing, stuffy or runny nose, loss of sense of smell, headache, muscle aches, fatigue and loss of appetite
    • Individuals can call 911 if there is an emergency, or 811 for health advice. For assistance in determining if further assistance is needed, COVID-19 self-assessment tool is located HERE
    • Report any suspected case(s) of COVID-19 like illness among participants or staff/volunteers to the local Health Authority Medical Health Officer as well as to PentaSport ([email protected])
    • If a case or outbreak is confirmed, follow the orders of the local Health Authority
