Statement on Vancouver Lapu Lapu Day Festival

We at Pentasport Ministries are deeply grieved by the tragic events that unfolded at the Lapu Lapu Day Festival this past weekend. What was meant to be a joyful celebration of Filipino culture and community has turned into a time of mourning and heartbreak.

We stand in solidarity with the Filipino community — in South Hill, across Vancouver, and beyond — as we grieve alongside you. Our hearts break for the families who have lost loved ones, for those who are injured, and for everyone affected by this tragedy.

We know that there are members of the Filipino community who are and have been part of our league. We want you to know that we are with you — we are mourning with you, praying for you, and standing beside you during this time of deep sorrow.

At Pentasport, our vision is to cultivate unity and transform the communities we are connected to by leading people towards Christ. As ambassadors of Christ, we are called to walk with compassion, carry one another’s burdens, and be a presence of hope and healing in times of sorrow.

We hold fast to the words of Scripture:

“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)

We grieve with those who grieve. We pray for healing for the brokenhearted.
